About La Puerta:
Our Motivation:
Compelled by our love and gratitude for God's abundant grace in our lives, this center's purpose is to help the Hispanic families in Greenwood to have the skills and resources to develop healthy, successful, productive lives for themselves and their children.
Unrealized expectations, un-employability, lack of English language proficiency and ignorance of available resources often causes great frustration and domestic instability among the Hispanic population already ill at ease in unfamiliar surroundings. Social and spiritual training and advice can give troubled families a greater opportunity to be successful forming a new life in a new country. Knowledge of how processes work and what services are available as well as initially meeting material needs for food, clothing and household furnishings, can be of great help in their assimilation process.
Our Vision:
To create a reputation as a place of safe, reliable information and assistance to those confused and unfamiliar with life in the United States. Through the love and compassion shown to them, it is our hope that many would come to know and serve the God we know as the ultimate source of all love and help and hope.
Our Method:
The operation of a facility, located in the Hispanic community, manned by Greenwood area residents who share our vision, offering material resources as needed, instruction, counsel, compassion and inspiration. Allowing those served the chance to give back in service. Giving individuals the opportunity to feel pride and accomplishment gained through advancing their skills and knowledge. Harnessing the resources of many friends in our community who benefit from the labor and love the Hispanic people have to offer.
